CEMETERY RULES AND REGULATIONS

OPENS AT DAWN – CLOSES AT DUSK. Cemetery Vaults must be made of concrete or steel ONLY. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. No Alcohol permitted. Not responsible for theft and/or Damages.

All interments (Burial and/or cremation) shall be paid in full for OPENING AND CLOSING by the Funeral Director prior to burial.

The Deercreek Township Cemetery Rules and Regulations play an important part in the beautification and preservation of the grounds and buildings. The Rules and Regulations safeguard both the lot holders and the cemetery and have been written in keeping with the Ohio Cemetery Law. In many cases, they reflect directly on the health and safety of the patrons and the workers. There are valid reasons for all of the Rules and Regulations.

We, the Trustees, ask for your cooperation.

To prevent the excess and unsightly crowding of tombstones, only one central monument and one marker for each grave will be permitted.
The placing of memorial benches (or any bench) is subject to the same Rules and Regulations as monuments. A bench is permitted on a gravesite ONLY if it is used in lieu of a headstone. No graveside is permitted to have more than one bench. No wooden or metal chairs, benches or settees are permitted.
No New trees, shrubs, bushes, vines, rose bushes or any thorny plants are permitted to be planted into the cemetery and will be removed at the discretion of the Sexton. Cut flowers in disposable containers or placed on the grounds are permitted at any time within twelve inches of the front of the monument. A limited number of funeral flower arrangements will be permitted after the committal service and will be removed after a period of four days or at the Sexton’s discretion.
Planting of annual or perennial flowers is permitted within twelve inches of the front of the monument and not to exceed the width of the monument. No Plantings are permitted on the back side of the monument. If there are no monument live flowers may be planted at the top of the grave in an area not to exceed twelve inches. Plants are to be maintained by the family and are subject to removal by the Trustee. Potted plants in disposable containers are permitted, with the understanding that they will be disposed of when they become wilted or unsightly. No wires of any kind may be used to secure potted plants.
No item may be hung from an existing tree, bush. No Benches. There will be no wires, hangers, or metal rods of any kind. For example: pinwheels and yard flags. These items make our employee’s job more difficult and dangerous.
Grave blankets and Christmas decorations are permitted from November 15 through April 1. No artificial flowers may be used on the ground from April 1 to October 1. Unsightly, wilted, or decaying items may be removed at the discretion of the TRUSTEE’S AT ANY TIME.
Decorative Rocks, wood, woodchips stone and plastic are not permitted on any grave lots. No new landscaping materials or fencing is permitted at any gravesite. These items pose a hazard to employees and visitors. Lot owners may be responsible for the cost of cleanup of these items.
The use of metal, glass, and concrete, wood, plastic and porcelain vases, jars, statues, birdbaths, figurines, etc. shall not be permitted on any lot. These items will be removed immediately by the Trustees.
Permanently placed flower vases must be attached by an approved monument dealer. The Cemetery does not accept any liability of any container, either permanent or seasonal.
No food or beverage items may be left a gravesite. These items attract undesirable animals and Birds.
Any item planted or placed on an unsold lot will be removed immediately.
The Trustee’s will remove articles not complying with these regulations.

Monuments

Footers for monuments will be poured when ground conditions are Conducive and with the permission by the Trustees. Ground must settle at least 3 three months from burial to be able to pour monument footer. Footers for “Veterans’’ markers will not be poured until one full year has passed to allow for settling of the grave.

The Township must be notified when the Veteran’s marker is received if it will be used as a headstone.

Cement depth must be 34”. There must be a 2” apron around the stone. Concrete must cure at least 48 hours before setting the stone.

The grantee shall provide to the Board of Township Trustees, in writing, a list of the names and addresses of the persons to whom the grantee’s property would pass by intestate succession.

The grantee shall notify the board in writing of any subsequent changes in the name or address of any persons to whom property would descend.

Any person who receives a township cemetery lot by gift, inheritance, or any other means other than the original conveyance shall, within one year after receiving the interest, give written notice of the person’s name and address to the board having control of the cemetery, and shall notify the board of any subsequent changes in the person’s name or address.

Definition of Lot owners:

The term lot or grave owner is intended and shall be constructed to mean the owner of “Burial Rights” the owner of burial privilege or the collateral right of use of any burial lot.

The Division of the Cemetery:

The cemetery is divided into Sections, Lots and Graves. There are five graves to a lot. Graves may be bought individually in the Single Section or by the lot with Five Graves. NO LOTS MAY BE SPLIT.

Purchase of Grave:

Graves may be purchased at the cemetery office.

Graves must be paid for in full PRIOR to any burial.

Deeds will be issued by the Fiscal Officer within Forty- Five Days of the receipt of the deed application.

Deeds are non-transferable. The purchaser shall provide in writing a list of names and addresses of the person(s) to whom grantees property would pass by intestate succession. The list of names of persons to use graves will be kept on file with the original deed.

A grave may be used for the burial of one person. The size of the grave is four feet by eight feet (Single grave)

Grave for those killed in the line of duty:

A grave will be free of charge for any Deercreek Township resident that was killed in the line of duty while serving in the Military, a Firefighter, EMS, or Law Enforcement Officer.
